Workshop: A food system in balance

A food system in balance - how do we limit greenhouse gases and air pollution from food production?

Agriculture contributes to emissions of both air pollutants and greenhouse gases. It is both reasonable and necessary to decrease these emissions, if we want to be serious about protecting our ecosystems from eutrophication and acidification, breathing cleaner air and mitigating climate change. But you cannot ignore the fact that cows are not cars. End-of-pipe solutions have their limitations also in other sectors, but in food production it is even more evident. We will have to think structurally.

The purpose of this second workshop is - through collective learning and knowledge sharing - to build a common problem scenario for the Nordic food system, a work we started at our previous workshop in Copenhagen.  This time there will be a stronger emphasis on identifying areas for action and exploring policies that could support another development. Our focus will be on what should be done in the Nordic countries, without forgetting the global perspective.

The workshop will be held on 25-26 March 2014, at Wendelsbergs kursgård close to Gothenburg.
